Better Charting — Head to Toe
For instructors
A short guide for clinical instructors. Students chart for free. You read the summary on their device during rotation. Nothing is sent to you, or to us.
What Better Charting is
Better Charting is free head-to-toe charting practice for nursing students. They chart all 10 systems, with no login. The charting is always free. A one-time $29 Unlock adds teaching on the chart. It does not lock the chart, the instructor summary, the practice sheets, or the checklist.
With a clinical group
Students can chart the assessment they completed, while in clinicals mode, on their own device during the day.
At the end of the day — or any time you walk by a student — open Summary for instructor on that device. Findings outside usual limits are listed first, by system, with the student's comments. Below that, each of the 10 systems gets one line of usual findings. A system they have not finished says Not charted.
On the same device, Pain, Fall Mobility, Skin Risk, and Wound assessment show a green checkmark when that sheet is complete.
For the first day, share the free printable checklist. It is the same head-to-toe list, on one page they can print or save.
Privacy
Clinicals charting works only in airplane mode. Students open Better Charting once while they are online, or install it, then turn the device offline to chart. While the device is online, Clinicals stays closed.
Nothing is sent, and nothing is stored on a server. The chart stays in the browser on that device. There is no account and no login.
This is practice. It is not the medical record.
The clinicals chart is wiped from that device and nothing is uploaded when it is wiped. It is wiped:
- at the Clinical ends time the student set on the device
- right away, if the device goes online during clinicals
- when the student chooses Wipe now
Only that Clinicals chart is removed. Case-study practice, and a purchased Unlock, stay on the device.
Don't enter the patient's name, room number, date of birth, or record number.
Coming next
A case study library and instructor class codes are in development, so students can practice on cases and submit their charted assessments to their instructor. There is no release date yet.
